The NT-series of Windows will terminate some DOS programs when they try something that is not allowed. Programs that are written according to the specs will run, others will not. Unfortunately some very popular programs are in the second category. The 9x-series of Windows was designed for maximum compatibility with older programs, so it will allow them to do all kinds of "fancy stuff" until it finally crashes the system. This was a design decision from MS for 95/98/Me, maximum compatibility with older programs, even if it reduces the stability of the OS. Bo Persson bop2@telia.com
