Subject: USCF computer chess ratings

It was a good idea to have the USCF computer chess ratings, way back when. But
they where to expensive, something like $5,000.0 or something. And the other
thing was i'm not sure if there was enough games played. Maybe so, i don't know.
It seems as though over the years the ratings that the computers achieved in the
human vs computer rating tournies by the USCF, back in the late 80,s early 90's
have droped. Perhaps it's because we have learned more on how to play against a
particular computer, like the Par Excellence or the Mach 3.
Do you think the Par Excellence, rated at USCF 2100 could achieve that rating
today? Or the Mach 3 with a USCF rating of 2265. I wonder!
Maybe it could, with the same tourny rules in effect as then with the same time
controls at 40/2
Or is a USCF rated (1900)player smarter today than yesterday against computers?
To the surpise of many, i would say the results would be pretty close to the
same as before. The Par amd the Mach3 would achieve close to the same rating!
What do you think?
Earl
