From the user's point of view you may have a point, but since Ed is retired, he is no longer concerned with being the slave of the users. That said, DOS is an easier environment to do assembly programming in, since you can program in real mode instead of protected mode (which is what you get in windows). So for Ed, DOS probably _is_ more convenient.
