It depends on your budget and your own playing strength. I have not played
the Star Diamond - but I have operated many other Novag products and they have
generally been of higher quality (IMO) than the GM autosensory machine above.

Some press sensory machines(sucha as Alanta) have a light touch and thus more
enjoyable than others. The GM is auto sensory and it worked quite well in a few
games I played on it. The GM also is noticiably weaker than claimed and I agree
with the 1850 figure somebody else posted. If you are stronger than 1650, I
would recommend a stronger unit and the Star Diamond might fit the bill. Also
Chess Tiger on a Palm might be suitable as well and it would be several hundred
points stronger than the GM.

One drawback about the GM is the plastic parts seem to be weaker and ligher
plastic than other plastic components used in other units. I have seen several
pictures of older units and they do not seem to hold up well. A common problem
is the board getting loose at the corners.

It's a shame there are not more autosensory units out there. ICD also carries
a DGT board (hooks up to your PC) that is autosensory - I have heard great
things about it and just ordered a unit today from ICD. But that runs close to
$400 normally.
