Overclocking is, when the *clockrate* (MHz) of a processor is increased to a higher value than it's default value. This is very common for AMD cpus, but also for some graphics processors, to increase speed. >What are the dos and >the don't of overclocking? What does It help or enhance to overclock a computer? The cpu speed will be higher, but since all other components (i.e. memory) have their own speed limits too, the overall performance increase of the system will be smaller than the clockrate difference. >What is the downside of overclocking? The chips get hotter faster :-)) Stability may decrease. Most often, a better cooling system will be required than at the default speeds. You may loose the manufacturer's guarantee. If you overclock the chip beyond recommended values, you may even "burn" the chip. As for cpus, you can only gain a few percent of speed, probably less than you can prove in Elo compared to the default speed. Regards, M.Scheidl
