as far as i know they discounted making the Tasc because of poor customer demand
by the late 1990's,very few people were still willing to pay nearly $2000 for a
dedicated  chess computer, that could be easily beaten by a $35 PC chess playing
program
there could have been no patent infringement on the Tasc R30 unit itself
possibly there was with the SB(Smart board)but if the demand were high enough i
am certain Tasc could have manufactured a different board to be used with the
R30 Dedicated unit itself or came to an agreement with Chessbase for the DGT
board rights

the bottom line is..the Tasc R30-R40 was discontinued, due to a waning customer
interest, brought on by the ever growing dominance of PC CHESS playing programs
