One of my tournament rules is that games where no apparent progress is made can be decided to be a draw. If the programs don't do anything to break up the position for >15 moves or so, it's pretty pointless to wait for something new to happen. I could play on for another 4 hours and wait until one program makes a mistakes as time runs out, but that's not what humans would do in a tournament, therefore this rule. Of course you have a point here, just as much as you may argue I should always wait for mate and not stop a game if both programs see one side +4 up. But statistically chances are small that this would make any significant difference on the long run. --- Shep
