Steve, >May I ask how the current chess tiger (handheld) compares to the standalone >chess hardware? With regard to hardware it's about the same - maybe Tiger is somewhat faster i.e. DragonBall (Tiger) runs at 33 Mhz to 66 Mhz and the H8 runs at about 20 Mhz to 25 Mhz. From a software perspective I suspect that Tiger is stronger although we'll have to wait and see when tests are carried out. As for OS 5 ARM machines (Tungsten), when Tiger is released as a native version it will slaughter the dedicated machines. I suspect we will see a factor of x10 difference in node count when comparing Tiger 33 MHz with ARM-Tiger 400 MHz!! >I ask only because I have no clue and I am contemplating getting a palm or >x-brand handheld to play some power chess in my free time. I realize most of >them can beat me but that isn't my point. I'd like to get the strongest >possible for analysis purposes. The Palm is great for playing chess (the only environment I really play chess!) but I wouldn't recommend it for analysis. Buy a cheap PC and one of the many strong programs - they are far superior to anything on a Palm, ARM or PocketPC IMHO. Regards, Steve
