Which rating do you refer to?

As for the ratings displayed within the CM GUI, AFAIK these are not fix but are
adjusted dynamically, depending on the CPU speed. For example, on a P3/700 MHz
the default CM personality is rated 2741, and on an Athlon@1200 it displays
2814. This seems a reasonable computer rating difference for these speed
difference to me (The King runs ~twice as fast on the Athlon@1200, than on the
P3/700).

Against humans, I guess the difference is much smaller. But GMs don't visit me
often, so I cannot prove it :-)).

IIRC, John (Merlino) has explained here once how CM handles this, but a long
time ago... maybe he reads your question and can give his comments again.

I just noticed, CM9000 displays the same "base rating" 2724 on both machines in
the Setup Personality dialogue, but I guess this serves as a text information
only with no effect on the playing strength of custom personalities (?).
