IMO a copy protection should be independant of the individual pc configuration, and/or if it's connected to the internet or not. I don't like "activate/registration" methods. It should be sufficient to have the original CD, and after that has been checked the use of all the software components should be as freely as possible on the computer system(s) of the purchaser. The King being a WB. engine which can be used in other GUIs is a strong point of Chessmaster, but it would be an even much stronger point if this would be possible without any hassle. The optimum is: Simply put a CD request into the engine exe (like others do!), so that it asks for the CD once on the first start, and maybe once or twice a year... Don't forget, the only purpose of copy proctection is to annoy honest customers (like me). For the crackers, it's entertainment... Regards, M.Scheidl
