Hi Kurt,

I would recommend taking a look at Knoppix, which is a Linux "Live CD".
Basically this means that you boot your computer from the Knoppix CD and it runs
Linux, but *WITHOUT* installing it on your hard-drive. Everything runs in
memory, and Linux disappears from your system as soon as you reboot (assuming
you remove the CD of course). The advantage of this is that you can test Linux
and get a feel for what a modern distribution is like without going through the
installation process. Knoppix is probably the best "Live CD" version of Linux
because it has the best hardware recognition.
