here's what i can explain to you. first ct15 is different from ct14. second the engines don't 'learn' in the chessbase gui-not literally- because their parametric sttings arent changed. Third-- here's what happens- the chess base gui has an option called 'book learning', which modifies the weight of evaluations in the playing tree used by software(*.ctg file) in accordance to actual performance of the engine using it, when this option is enabled. This causes a few problems and has some advantages. problem one- tree is a big file so when it is modified all the time, closing program becomes difficult under modern OS like XP which uses system restore to backup changes in the tree. problem 2- not everything learned in the book is correct so the machine could be taught to avoid the best lines. good point one- adaptive behavior on the part of the tree to the engine could lead to playing improvements providing that you don't use --as an example- the same copy of pwerbook2003 on your harddrive for all you r engines as this can presumably cancel out any adaptive advantage. -marc On May 27, 2003 at 14:20:25, Michael P.
