They are not technically the same, but they are both competitions between
humans, so the analogy holds as far as I can see.

Would it not an amazing event to see a human being run a 100 meter dash in 8
seconds? Or see a human being bench press 1000 pounds? Despite the fact that
machines can do both of these quite easily, it is still an awesome
accomplishment IMO. I don't think it will be any less spectacular when a human
makes a brilliant chess move, just because computers could find the move also.
If anything, we will be able to see which humans play the best and make the
fewest mistakes, making it more interesting.
