Is Fritz5 still the strongest one? What about >Junior5? 1)I think that Junior5 is slightly better than fritz5. 2)There are also other good programs that are not in the ssdf list for example Rebel10, Chesstiger11.5(leading Shep's tournament) and chessmaster6000 We have not enough information to decide which program is number 1 3)I am not sure if Fritz5 was the strongest program(It was and is one of the best programs) Hiarcs and Nimzo98 are also strong and I am not sure if the first place of fritz5 in the ssdf list is justified. 2 reasons: a)This list is based on long matches between programs and if the order of the games was different maybe the results were different because fritz5 is good at learning a specific opponent. b)Fritz5 is optimized for the pentium200MMX that was used in the ssdf games so if you have another machine then your results may be slightly different. 4)There is not a definite answer because the best program against program may be different from the best program against humans and the best program for matches may be different from the best program for tournaments.
