I use 64 bits, but store only the lower 32 bits in the hash table (key) and use the upper 32 bits to form the index. Seems to work fine for me, but I think Bob may have said even this approach is risky (?). Of course you only need to do the above to squeeze more into 32 bytes of hash record, if this is important to you. Frank
