I am interested to know if you run Ruffian under winboard in your test.

I found for versions of movei that they can show a different behaviour under
winboard and under Fritz so I suspect that it is possible that other programs
can also show different behaviour under different interfaces.

Ruffian most impressive results were under winboard in Leo's tournament

I do not know if winboard programs can play under winboard against chessbase
engines if you do not play games manually.
