Go up one level in this thread

I don't need a (potential) match to be against Schroer! I have set up quite a
few (very informal), matches in the past at the Marshall CC, and in NY. Some of
the more interesting ones for everyday chess playing software users, were
between, Chess Book seller Fred Wilson and Fritz3, SM Ron Young and Genius 3,
and Igor Shliperman against Fritz 3, on a 486 notebook running at 50 MzH. The
programs won all their matches at 10 minute chess. (I know, no big deal
today!).

The difference this time is that I will be attempting to put some intentional
effort into organizing matches between the best software on more current
hardware, at tournament time controls against against strong well know Senior
Masters (or Better), with some kind of sponsorship.

I'd like to see the players paid, and I'd be thrilled to be able to bring the
club(s) some publicity that would hopefully, bring them some new members.
Naturally, I'd like to receive an organizer's fee as well, but that won't be my
first priority.

But no guarantees - I will be very busy reastablishing myself as a scholastic
chess teacher in the NY city schools, so this will be a part time effort.

However the chess world in NY is much more interesting than it is here in
Seattle. I remember how pathetic a certain well know chess company here was to
promoting a match between, Ferret and Chuck Shullien, that I set up.

The fact that they weren't interested in putting the event in their own
international chess magazine, and that their was no prize for the player(s), or
the program, was just plain sad.
But in NY, I believe their are much better possibilities.

I welcome the imput of others with interest & knowledge of what we can possibly
accomplish with our efforts, as I believe that while I could be a pretty good
organizer, without the interest & efforts of others with simular interest,
nothing much can happen...
