a) You can not assure me enough that WinME is not a problem.

1. There is a 'Move Limit' editbox. Make sure it is set high enough.
600 is default.

2. Could be. But to be looked into by the engine author.

3. Has never happened here.

4. Yes a pesky problem and happens at other times as well. Might be better
to select another 'layout' when possible. Perhaps save a few of your favorites.

5a. Works OK for me. I don't know where that setting is stored but it might
have a problem with your unique installtion drive.

5b. It is not clear to me which window you describe.

6. "And no, my swap file is not too small". Too large could cause swapping. See
if the problem exist with 96MB hash table. Don't leave a bunch of other junk
running.

7. My guess would be the moves are already in the selected book. But I have seen
this problem. Tools/Factory Settings seems to help make it work properly
for me. I can't imagine why that helps, but it does here.

8a. I doubt this is a problem unless lightning accompanied the power outage.
Reinstallation might help if the hardware is not damaged.

8b. Probably no entry in the help file. A problem for ChessBase.

When you first start the program select the PlayChess.com option. Sign up, sign
in, and query for any updates. I think the latest version is dated March 05,
2003 in the Help/About dialogbox. Don't worry if the GUI then claims it's
'Fritz'. Your engines will all still load fine.

FWIW,
BK
