Yes, this sounds like hash was set too large. But I remember similar problem
reports when people didn't use the standard installation paths, related to the
recovery function of Windows. I'm not sure about that, but it may be that
Windows tries to back up large files again and again, under certain
circumstances (IIRC, the problems I read of were related to the large opening
book files).

AFAIK Windows won't do this for files in ..\My Documents\.., but for other
folders. Maybe Windows experts can crosscheck if this is correct.

I have WinME too and non-default installation paths, but I've disabled that
recovery option in the Windows system settings. A tip to use *at your own risk*
only. :-) But I guess when the "big crash" happens, that option won't be very
useful anyway... and the constant HD and system activity always, although
Windows hasn't been told to do anything, was very annoying.

An he can switch to Shredder in "Extras/Option, Version" which allows to create
Shreddermarks (while Fritzmarks require the Fritz engine).

With the March 5th GUI version, I'm currently not aware of bugs in the GUI. - I
know the windows resizing problem; for the opening book I use only the tab in
the notation window, so I don't have to open & close an additional window for
that. As for non-functional help buttons, it may be that a keyword search in the
F1 help can still bring up some info about these functions.
