Brian, Thank you for your help. I have or will check into everything you stated in the event I have overlooked something. I have never had any problems with anything running under Windows ME or with this operating system itself. If that is the case with ALL my other software, which is not elaborate, then one must assume Windows ME is not the problem. And I am not assuming there is any incompatibility with Windows ME and Shredder that I know of. > >1. There is a 'Move Limit' editbox. Make sure it is set high enough. >600 is default. When you load a previous game from a database: Game | Replay * | a small window pops up with "Pause" and "Stop" buttons with a slider indicating your choice of replay speed. I don't use a hash file over 32 - or occasionally 64 mb playing 5 8 or 10 6 games. I am experienced enough to know all other programs are shut down except those needed to run Windows and that an exceedingly large hash file for short blitz games is not necessary and could be a preformance drain. My task bar is clear except for Norton AV. > >7. My guess would be the moves are already in the selected book. But I have seen >this problem. This is an attempt to make a new book from scratch. How can any moves be in an empty book? Tools/Factory Settings seems to help make it work properly >for me. I can't imagine why that helps, but it does here. I'll look into this and try it. Unless I can save all of my preferred settings made after an installation I would prefer not to have to revert to "Factory settings" and go through setting up the whole program again to my preferences. Chessbase touts making new and/or custom books as a powerful feature but it seems to quickly over ride this acclamation with utter confusion. > >8a. My program updates for Shredder 7.04 are all dated March 5, 2003 including the file Chessbase Support sent me as are the download update files available on the Chessbase "support" and download" files offered on their web site.
