There used to be an IM on ICC that would take computers as slow time controls -
and won almost everytime.  That's when machines were in the P100 to 200 Mhz.
IMO it takes at least a 1Ghz machine to see GM strength -- and even then it may
be only be a few programs.  When you start talking 3 Ghz, -- even the weaker
programs are moving into GM territory.  To get Super GM strength -- were're not
there yet.  The next time they have  a catefory XX event - they should invite a
top program on high end machine -- maybe pay the GM's $1500 for every win and
$500 for a draw.  That would create a lot interest.  Also , we'll know for sure
how a program matches up under real conditions.  I would like to Shredder, J8 or
F8 (SMP capable) play in an event like that.
