Hi:
Besides all what has been said by the rest of poster here -that I endorse as
correct- there is a couple of practical points to take into account. I mean,
even if you are right -but I believe you are not- and softw. develpment will
stop due to hardw. progress, nothing can be done as much in this as in any area
of industrial or technological development what comands and have the grip is
what gives more striking power, more eficiency. In fact, in the infinitely more
important area of human survival we have not been capable of stoping arms races
even if our lives are in stake because is a matter of fact that each side in a
confrontation wants and need to ensure for himself the most destructive weapons
the science can produces. In the more humble race of chess programmers hegemony,
I do not see how you could convince people that is putting into stake his
earnings or reputations to avoid this or that "unfair" technique if they get an
edge with them. Impossible.
The second fact is this: actual importante of hardware is only temporal. The
simple fact that all have capabilities to use the same machines ensure that
sooner or later the edge given by superior hardw. will vanish and so once and
again softw. development will be necesary.
Besides, I do not believe that even now such softw developmente has been
stopped. Which are the facts you have to sustain such a thing.?
