I agree. Piece square tables are the easiest way to make a simple, material-only
program into a better program. It will run almost as fast as material-only, and
it will pay more sensible moves. You can encourage castling, control of the
center, and so on. You can have diferent tables for the opening, middlegame, and
endgame, so you can have major influence over the entire game.
