It is a Deep Sjeng personality crippled not by limiting the search depth but by whacking the eval function way out of kilter so that it values attack considerably over material: it makes unsound sacs. My aim was to produce a fun opponent for the strong amateur. I run it on a K6-450 and it used to rate about 2300-2400, players of your calibre could take points off it fairly regularly. Trouble is since the Deep Sjeng 1.5 upgrade came out, its rating shot up about 100-150 points, taking it out of your desired range! I am gradually trying to adjust the eval function further to bring it down to around 2300 again, but it takes time to do this and observe the results and its style of play. Give it a go though - it is usually a fun engine to play, and often when you lose you will feel that something "brilliant" happened over the board (though if you analyse the game afterwards you will usually find that the "brilliancy" was a mere cheapo!)
