It turns out the answer was in one of the other posts .... if you try to take the shortcut method to enter this message board, using a bookmark and/or address line which contains your login and password info ( for example http://login_name:password@www.talkchess.com/forums/1/index.html ), then previously read links don't show up. If you enter login and password info in the usual way ( for example http://www.talkchess.com/forums/1/index.html followed bu login_name and password) then the previously read links do show up. Robin
