Dear Anatoli, I guess your speedy celeron was not using windows XP. This new Operating System keeps compressed files on part of your harddrive in case of a crash-- it's called "System Restore". When you make changes to big files Like a database in CB8 or an opening book in Fritz8, as you do when 'book learning' is on, it can take a long time to close the program. One of my home-made opening books is far too large, so it takes longer to close game than to play it. You have several solutions. Some will say get rid of system restore. I don't like this solution. Updating CB8 will stop that program from using system restore to back up *.ctg files (trees or opening books) - that helps alot. Maybe also to turn off book learning in Fritz, and then to incorprate game results into a tree at a later time could also speed the plow. best to you, marc On June 16, 2003 at 06:50:33, Anatoli Sirota wrote: >Dear Chess Friends ! > >Could you please explain me how to fix the next problem, if it possible at all. >After installing ChessBase 8 and then Fritz 8 on my new PC, it takes them around >10-15 seconds to close down.
