My personal opinion is that 2' games are far too fast a time control to merit
any attention. I've noticed in my tournaments that the "stronger" engines don't
show their dominance until after the time control has lengthened.

I've played 35-tournaments now. The participants have always included Shredders
7 and 7.04, CM 9000 SKR, Tiger 15, and Fritz 7. The first 15 or so tournaments
also included several other (weaker) engines, such as older Fritz's and Ruffian,
and Aristarch, and the Crafty's. When it was clear that these weaker engines
were not of the same strength, then they were gradually excluded (the last-place
finishers were removed from each successive tourney).

Most of my tournament games average about 90'/side. Shredder 7.04 is clearly the
dominant engine (it usually wins most tournaments, and finishes in second when
it doesn't win), with Shredder 7 and CM generally second. For some reason, Tiger
15 hasn't done well (it wins very few tournaments and often comes last or near
last in this group of 5-engines). However, it seems that the ChessBase Tiger 15
is hurt by a book that doesn't suit it -it's not restrictive enough and
generally doesn't lead it to the best lines. However, I've been "modifying and
improving" the tournament books of all engines (CM 9000 SKR is given the book of
the last place finisher from the previous tournament) so they are generally on a
level standing now.

Conclusion, Shredder 7.04 is much stronger than Shredder 7, and the difference
is best seen, not in head-to-head battles, but against others.
All the best,

Stephen
