Just fix the loging problem and now both engines are printing their logs :)
and I've got it going automatic now. (never done one before in xboard) I noticed
early on that the opening book for yace wasn't that great against crafty's book
so I made a small but good book for it to use, average rating of players used in
pgn was over 2600 mostly world champions. I'm sure this is not the best book but
I was in a rush to start maybe If I have time I will try to make better book.

And now after 6 games but yace had white every game the score was 4 1/2-1 1/2 at
that point and after finally getting logs to work.
I am now restarting the match they will play 20 games. My first impressions of
these games were that crafty was less active and weaker in the endgame.

also pondering is on but both engines seem to be sharing well :)
crafty is default everything. book from web site.

here is my yace.ini:

REM initialization file for Yace
; If you want to put all logfiles in a directory, i.e. first create the
; subdirectory logs and then uncomment the line.

; Use 30 Megabytes for hash tables. Change this to a size suitable for
; your hardware. You can use numbers like 10.5M, 10.5m, 10500k or 105000000.
hash 96M
; set the chache size for endgame tables. Default is 2M. I suggest to use
; not less than 1M and not more than 8M.
; egtb_cache 4M
; Where to find the endgame tables, Nalimov format, compressed or uncompressed
; If you don't have endgame tables, delete the following line

; save all my games
sgames yacegam.pgn
; positional learning now is on by default
book_learn 6
; to disable book learning, I suggest
; book_learn 4
; Yes - 4 and not 0, so that Yace will have access to NAGs in dblearn.bin
