assuming the firewall of your lan allows it, you might consider using the
playchess dot com client because it features direct connect to your opponents(to
reduce lag and overhead), even across your own LAN. If necessary, both machines
can log in as guests, go to some empty playing room and challenge each other,
set filters to only accept challenges from each other, and set filters to auto
challenge each other and let it rip.
