At ChessBase, no you will not find those ads, their gone for a couple of weeks
now.

But they were there for no less than 10 days and many people ordered Junior 8
before the release date! I was one of them!

Also some early packages shipped had it right on the bloody cover, what more
evidence do you need? None!

This site still has the false advertising up! Also the London Chess Center!

JUNIOR 8
Double World Champion

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This chess program, written by the Israelis Amir Ban and Shay Bushinsky, has
achieved everything it could wish for. Junior won the Computer Chess World
Championship in 2001 and 2002, and it can look back on a string of successes
against human beings in tournaments and matches. Unforgettable its performance
against Garry Kasparov in the "Man vs Machine" match in New York in January
2003. With millions of people following on the Internet, double world champion
Junior played exciting, imaginative chess to hold the world's strongest player
to a 3:3 draw. With Junior 8 you get two chess engines. One is the original
engine that played in the Kasparov match, the second is the most recent, further
developed version. But it is not just the engine that is fully up-to-date. With
Junior 8 you get the latest Fritz 8 user interface which has delighted fans all
over the world. You get the latest training functions for the opening, middle
and endgame; new photo-realistic 3D boards in custom-designed silver and surreal
hot-air balloons. It includes twelve months of free access to Playchess.com, the
world fastest-growing chess server. And you get the latest Junior tournament
book, developed by GM Boris Alterman, as well as a database of 500,000
high-quality games.

System requirements:
 Pentium or compatible PC,
Win98, Me, 2000, XP,
32 MB RAM,
CD ROM drive & mouse.

And this e-mail with an apology from ChessBase stating what I said above about
the cover...however they are _not_ offering to remedy the situation, only to
say sorry will you let it go...in so many words.

Dear chess friend,

many thanks for your mail.

Unfortunately there is a mistake in the text of the Junior8 DVD box.

The Junior engine that played Kasparov in February was a version for
multiprocessor systems only. In fact there is simply no single processor version
of that multiprocessor engine. That's why the engine that played Kasparov is
included on the DeepJunior8 CD-ROM only but not on the standard Junior8 CD.

We bag your pardon for that mistake. Since there simply is no single processor
version of that engine we will not be able to provide you with a fix/upgrade.

Many thanks for your understanding.

Yours sincerely,

So all who purchased Junior 8 believing they were going to recieve more than one
engine, deserve compensation. It's cut and dry.

However, will ChessBase review this matter and fix it? Only time will tell.

The best solution would be, IMHO, Amir Ban and Shay Bushinsky, to supply
ChessBase the extra engines in single processor format, as a patch to Junior 8.

It's really that simple.

Please don't argue over the obvious, it's annoying.

Terry

P.S.

Yes I know everyone with Junior 8 will get them then, but so what....it's good
business sense, everyone will come away happy, and Junior 8 sales will rise!

Deep Junior 8 sales will not be affected very much and Junior 8 then should
offset any financial loss.

It would probably make them more money, with Junior and any release of Junior in
the future and keep both the integrity of ChessBase intact and keep and possibly
increase overall sales on their chess software.

It sure won't hurt them!

Doing Nothing...Probably Will!
