(Or at least does not offer you support of SMP) The difference is that it would be folly for a company to modify an outdated version for no extra cost for selling a few extra copies. Your example is a separate product of the latest engine. Presumably to reach a wider audience with the Shredder brand. That makes sense from a commercial viewpoint. As for customer stupidity. Like I said before, the idea of purchasing the latest single-cpu version of J8 and receive a slightly outdated SMP version for free is absurd. Chessbase has never been a charitable organisation or offered spectacular consumer benefits. The neverending GUI supply and the Chessbase server are good examples. The case is unfortunate and there might be a way to get the money back. However, I don't think it's worth the attention it's getting. Here nor anywhere else. It's a discussion between Chessbase and their dissatisfied customers. Not a spamming object here. Regards, Mogens
