I've seen on the net where someone built a Lego robot that picked up the pieces and move them. It was setup like an X-Y plotter (made out of Legos) that was mounted above the chess board to grip the peices. I also saw a second Lego chess robot that contained a tiny chess program in the Lego RCX brick and also moved the peices from below the board. It used an X-Y plotter type mechanism (made from Lego bricks) that moved a magnet below the board to move the selected peice. Bill
