There was a discussion about Fischer Random Chess vs shuffle chess. Aside from FRC forcing bishops on opposite colors and the strange castling rules there seems to be little difference in the two. What would be wrong by allowing the Fischer Random positions but still allow castling only if the King and castling rook are on the original squares? I don't know what percentage of positions would allow the King to be on e1 or e8 with at least one rook on the h or a squares but it would still allow castling by all the current programs and even though castling wouldn't be allowed every single game it wouldn't be eliminated either. Maybe this has already been proposed.
