Nevertheless, it is the newest engine upgrade provided by Chessbase and
recognized by all.  I believe the SSDF uses 8.0.0.23 as well.

Which Fritz 8 engine is the strongest is a very debatable question.  Grailmaster
website shows 8.0.0.5 as slightly stronger.  Perhaps if the differences between
all three were greater I could see the point in choosing an older engine -- but
as you say, the differences are small...
