You do not need CB8 to enjoy chessbase magazines or monographs. Using the database functions of Fritz, shredder or junior will do fine. And Cbase light is included with monographs for the cb impaired. You will need a media player enabled on your machine like windows media player 9 in order to view videos which are avi type files. CB8 excels at handling large databases-- with more than 8000 records-- which the 'lite' version is crippled to not handle well. It is also useful for web-publishing and opening preparation against specific tournament opponents. Also good for designing opening books to use with playing engines. These are nice features but not necesary to read a magazine of chess games. cheers, marc On June 20, 2003 at 15:37:20, Terry McCracken wrote: >Do ChessBase Magazines work well on their own or do you need ChessBase 8.0 to >get the most out of them?
