According to http://www.tim-mann.org/xboard/engine-intf.html, the Winboard protocol says nothing about standard error being used (only standard input and standard output), but both Winboard and Arena support reading from standard error. Is this "wrong" (doesn't follow the protocol), or is it up to the implementer of the GUI to decide?
