Well, according to the online store the cheapest G5 is $2,000. Which slightly surprised me - I was expecting at least $2,500. Still, it is a colossal markup; I could build a roughly equivalent PC (at least according to the published G5 benchmarks) for £800 or so, although it would be plug-ugly ;) I think Steve Jobs said at some point that he wanted to increase the Apple market share to 10 per cent; it has been 5 per cent and barely changing for as long as I can remember (although I suspect that, for all his bluster, had he not taken over and totally reworked the product line several years ago it could well have been 0 per cent by now).
