Also, depending upon how much you'd like to cut out, you could consider
something like "queen takes protected pawn" to be a bad capture. This would take
a little more effort to detect, but you would save yourself a lot of uneccessary
sub-tree searches.

You said that your program isn't fast, so spending the extra time to detect
something like this probably isn't going to hurt as much as it would for someone
who had a fast searcher.
