I will admit that the world is large enough for more than one opinion. I have
strong opinions and am not bashful about telling them out. I understand the
point of view of a software purchaser who wants a solution right now. I really
think this is another place where a "personal killfile" would be a good idea.
That way, I could just throw away all technical support messages. But just
because Ed is being an incredible gentleman and anwering the questions to his
best does not mean it is a good idea. To my way of thinking it is incredibly
rude to push for technical support here. Ed's good humor in delivering it also
does not excuse that behavior. Furthermore, technical support staff exist for a
reason. They are trained to fix problems of this nature.

Others (apparently many or most) feel differently than I do. Anyway, I've had
my say and I won't harp on it any more. If people want to holler for tech
support here then they are probably going to do it anyway. And if Ed (or any
other programmers) want to handle it that way I don't care much. I just felt,
from my personal perspective that it was improper and ineffective. But hey, it
takes all kinds to make a world. It may be that my opinion is invalid. I have
worked in the scientific and database communities. Perhaps things are different
in the chess programming community. I know I pester Dr. Hyatt for information
from time to time. Of course, in a case like that, there is no technical
support organization. At least that is my excuse.
