In a way, I sympathize with Ed here. I like *using* GUI's but hate writing them. I would much rather be doing something mathematical. Crunching numbers is a lot more fun than shining the apple in that way. What I would do if I were Ed, would be to simply recode his engine as a DLL and let some GUI guy make the interface. Besides, you need some kind of artsy-eye to write a good one. Maybe he could get Tim Mann to write one for him. ;-)
