From a quick web search, I get...Opteron 2GHz $2100 (from the site you mention) If you want a similarly priced in an Itanium, I get...Itanium 800 MHz $1900 If you want similar speed (kind of)...Itanium 1GHz $5000 If Intel doesn't come way down, I don't see how they're going to compete, unless the Itanium is just a world beater compared to the Opteron. The Itanium would have to be 4x faster to get the same speed for the money. Also, going from ~$800 for an Opteron 244 to $2100 for 200MHz more seems like an awful big jump.
