[..] Yes, peaces should be placed on good squares, files, rows,... but I am not sure whether this "ofcourse" can be examined as a tactical calculation (in particular in closed positions). Arguing against doing a better evaluation I always hear "BUT it's better to be able to search two plies deeper instead". OFCOURSE... if you assume, that the machines opponent is a machine, too... and does also concentrate on tactical calculation. I am sure, that being able to think also (! not only) in structures and having plans in mind will make a machine superior one soon day. Ofcourse I am not talking about putting an simple evaluation of tempi into the current evaluation. Internette Gruesse, Ingo
