The "secret" they all share is dynamic null move. Other parameters are slightly different. Crafty always had a null_min and mull max with a range of 1. I just expanded boundaries by one each way depending on the position - so nullmove nows has a range of 4 and it is dynamic within the search. The "secret" of course is how I did that - it was really just a crap shoot - let me try this "xx code" and see what happens. I just happened to nail it pretty good on the first shot. The genesis came from tinkering with MPC - I first tried this on MPC and it made it much better - but it still was not as good as standard crafty. So my thought was let me try it on standard crafty and see what happens. Viola! There was bug in the first version that it to crash. This latest test version has not crashed at all in about 50 5 0 games and it's a little different that my first pass. I am very excited about it -but that is tempered with the thought that this may be a one time fluke and nobody will be able to repeat my results. I made send it out later this weekend. I will ot course send Bob the full source. If anyone is interested in obtaing a free copy of this modified Crafty with all the F8 eng files to run this in F8 Shredder 7 or Junior 8, email me with the word "include" in the subject heading.
