How deep? What line is your program seeing? Crafty statically evals this -0.40, but on a 12 ply search says white is down -1.01, with the following line: 1. c4 Rfe8 2. Qc3 Nf4 3. Bxf4 Qxf4 4. Qd2 Qf6 5. Qe3 Qh4 6. Bf1 f6 We've made it here: [D]2r1r1k1/p5pp/1p3p2/2nRp3/2P1P2q/P3QP1P/7P/3R1BK1 w - - 0 7 Now Crafty says, statically: note: scores are for the white side material evaluation................. 0.00 development......................... 0.00 pawn evaluation..................... -0.90 passed pawn evaluation.............. 0.00 passed pawn race evaluation......... 0.00 king safety evaluation.............. -0.07 interactive piece evaluation........ 0.16 total evaluation.................... -0.81 I'd say you're lacking in a pawn eval. You should be able to see white's poor pawn structure, just by looking at the board. Even if you're not a good chess player.
