It's certainly possible that the "velocity engine" or simd unit, had (has) the potential to be an excellent bitboard platform. I'm not sure to what degree it would be possible to exploit it for chess, but it's been 64 bit for years now, and no one has done so. Other than that, I don't see any advantage the G5 has over current or future offerings from Intel and AMD. We sold our Apple stock long ago. I don't know why it's still in business. Will
