Stefan Meyer-Kahlen is to be largely congratulated for an excellent showing in the SSDF. Now he not only pounds the stuffings out of folks at the world championships, but also on the SSDF list. The number 2800 is pretty much arbitrary. We can add 500 and Shredder has broken the 3300 mark. As long as we add 500 to all the other programs, the result will remain consistent. This highly respected list: http://www.chessmetrics.com/FE/Graphs150.htm has Capablanca and Fischer at around 3000 ELO. Of course, it's just a number. The real meanings of chess ratings are not so much in the absolute values but in the absolute differences as used to predict a broad scope of outcomes between some given player and a collection of opponents in the list.
