The smaller pool you are the bigger would be ELO difference.
So you measure in "miles".
For precise ratings ("in millimetres") you need:
a) a big pool of engines (200 at least);
b) decent number of games for each engine (70 at least);
c) most games should be played vs closest opponents (by ratings).
