Subject: tablebase access quirk with UCI engines

Author: William Penn

I received my new Shredder 7 CD yesterday and installed it in their recommended
default folder at c:\Program Files\Chessbase. It seems to work OK.

I then downloaded and setup the Shredder 7.04 UCI engine, which seems to work OK
too except... It does not give a "tb=number" in the main engine pane when
accessing the tablebases. Other engines do so, including Shredder 7, for
example:

Analysis by Shredder 7:
54...Nc6+ 55.Kc4 Bf6 56.h4 Bxh4 57.Kc5 Bf6 58.Kd5 Nd4 59.Be4 Kd7
  -+ (-8.08) Depth: 10/24 00:00:14 368kN, tb=6931

If a mate is found in the tablebases, then it gives that information properly
such as:

Analysis by Shredder 7.04:
1.-+(-#29): 1...Bg5

I can tell from watching the hard drive access LED light that the tablebases are
indeed being accessed by Shredder 7.04 UCI, so there is just no feedback in that
regard appearing in the main engine pane information line (no tb=# info).

I have also tried the Ruffian UCI engine, and it does the same thing, no
tb=number. So this could just be characteristic of UCI engines, rather than a
malfunction, but I don't know.

Can anyone clarify this? Thanks.
