peter- I suspect the formulation of your question-model is too abstract. Most likely any change in performance of a specific computer as a result of using tablebases might be a result of how quickly these bases can be accessed during play--a hard drive speed and data channel throughput issue which is not asked about here. Also completeness of a tablebase collection can be critical-- 5pc endings require close to 8 gigabytes stored on a harddrive. A more interesting question--(I think)--does the existance of installed tablebases change the style of middle game play. I.E., when a forcing line leads to a rapidly calculable ending more often, can we suppose the machin is more willing to liquidate material - or should it be so? marc On July 13, 2003 at 02:48:12, Peter Skinner wrote: >What is the estimated ELO increase when tablebases are in use rather than when >not in use? > >I have been running a test on FICS for some time now, and I can not see a great >difference in play with Chess Tiger with or without them.
