Thanks for trying to help.  I believe it is called FEN ??  Anyway it's new to me
also but here is what I figured out myself.  Each set of numbers/letters between
the // marks is a rank on the chessboard.  The first is the 8th rank and starts
from left to right.  the 6k1 means --6 empty squares,k=black king, and 1=1 empty
square. So the black pieces are represented by lower case letters and the white
pieces are represented by uppercase letters.  Usually a letter at the end b or w
indicates who is on the move.  The /8/ on the fourth rank indicates no pieces on
that rank of course. Give it a try :>)
